Athletics Tanzania (AT) goes to its general election in Morogoro today. The leaders to be elected will run the body for the next four years.
The executive committee will be given one year to amend the body’s constitution.
The election will be supervised by a special committee appointed by the National Sports Council (NSC).
The committee led by Henry Tandau disqualified some of the contestants for not meeting required standards.
Some prominent figures who were disqualified are Isaack Kireti who was contesting for the chairmanship, William Kallaghe and Ernest Saria (vice chairman), Zainab Mbiro (executive committee) and Jackson Kalikumtima (executive committee).
Aspirants who have been approved to seek the chairmanship are Francis John, Henry Nyiti, Juma Ikangaa and Anthony Mtaka.
Those contesting for the post of vice chairman include Leonard Mandara, Augustino Mduda, Gidamis Shahanga, Hamad Ndee and Herman Ndisa.
Other posts to be contested for in the election which has been put off and on are secretary-general, assistant secretary general, treasurer, assistant treasurer and executive committee members.
Incumbent leaders are Francis John (chairman), Suleiman Nyambui (secretary general) and Julius Msomi (assistant secretary general).
