The National Housing Corporation (NHC) in collaboration with the Parastatal Sector Pension Fund (PSPF) has pledged to construct more affordable housing.

NHC Director General, Nehemiah Mchechu, said this while addressing workers of the corporation during their annual general meeting held in Morogoro.

Among the corporation’s plans to achieve this include the use of profit raised from the sale of 10,000 medium and high cost houses, to build some 5,000 low income houses.

NHC has secured a loan and is ready to work with PSPF to, in his words “…immediately starts construction of the houses...”
The corporation has dispatched two teams across the country to determine the project’s feasibility and hope to have gathered sufficient information to commence with the implementation by the end of July.

The project will also utilise the banking system to fund house loans. NHC intends to extend the housing benefits to its employees. Veneranda Seif, NHC Morogoro Regional Manager believes that good internal cooperation between the management and staff has led to the considerably prosperous growth.

The corporation’s efforts follow a recently meeting in Dodoma where President Jakaya Kikwete convened with all heads of the social security funds to discuss the construction of cheap houses for low income earners.
