Zanzibar netball association, CHANEZA, has stuck to organise a general election as a result of the unavailability of contestants to aspire for the body’s general secretary post.
While some contestants have expressed their intention to vie for the body’s other posts, no one has collected forms to aspire for the general secretary post that was left vacant by Sherry Khamis.
Khamis was appointed by the Government to head the Isles national sports council, BMTZ.
Khamis, whose new office is supposed to observe the general election for Chaneza, said the elections are now overdue.
Chaneza was supposed to hold its elections in April but the absence of aspirants for the general secretary post has completely stalled the move.
However, aspirants have collected and filled forms for the posts of chairperson, treasurer and members of executive committee.
Khamis has made a call to the general public highlighting the need to fill up the posts for the elections to go through.
Two aspirants have shown interest to contest for the chairperson’s post, namely Rahma Ali Khamis and acting general secretary, Rahma Bakar.
Khamis said it’s only the general secretary’s post that remains to be filled before the elections can be held to elect new office bearers.
She also said there is a strong need to have constitutionally elected office bearers for Chaneza. Moza Mbae is the acting chairperson of Chaneza who took over from Rukia Matar who is outside the country.
