Five people have been reported dead in Morogoro region, including three who died on the spot and another, who was badly injured, when a lorry rammed into a group of people standing by the road side.
Regional police commander (RPC) Adolphina Chialo said the accident occurred at the weekend at about 13:15 on Kilombero-Mikumi road, involving a lorry (reg no. T 734 ABJ) travelling from Zambia to Dar es Salaam which was loaded with copper.
The lorry knocked down four pedestrians, killing three on the spot and one was seriously injured.
The RPC named those, who died as Alpha Kikoze (24), Derius Nguo (35) and a five-year-old child, Diyonce Venance, all from Mikumi area in Kilosa district.
She said Alpha Kidungo (15) was injured and admitted to St Kizito Mission Hospital in Mikumi.
In another incident, Hassan Shomari (36) from Mji Mpya in Morogoro municipality died in a road accident after he hit a tree as he was riding a motorcycle on a rainy day.
Chialo said the incident occurred on Sunday in Makunganya area on the Dodoma-Morogoro highway.
The RPC said the man, who was riding a motorcycle (Reg No T 142 BJG), a SanLG, was coming from Kihonda area to Makunganya, whereby he ran into a tree due to speeding and died at the hospital.
Meanwhile, a Kilakala resident in Morogoro municipality, Mathias Balbo (68), has died after he was run over by a speeding vehicle.
The RPC said the accident occurred at the weekend at about 15:00 on the old Dar es Salaam road.
She said the vehicle involved in the accident was STK 3292, a Toyota
Land Cruiser, the property of the Morogoro Regional Administrative Secretary Office, which was driven by Beno Bernard (54) from Kihonda in Morogoro.
She said the cause of the accident was high speed and the driver was being held by the police for further investigation.
