The Confederation of African football, CAF has assured of safety for all players who would under go the newly introduced scientific way of age detection technology.

The Tanzania U-17 players are supposed to under go through the test to ascertain their eligibility ahead of being allowed to compete in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Magnetic Resonance Image testing has been approved by FIFA as a measure to do away with uncertainties over age of players and avoid cheating.

The championship will be hosted by Morocco. FIFA and CAF medical committee under Doctor James Sekajugo, have
completed the procedure on the youth national team as they wait results.

Sekajugo said the method is safer compared to the use of x-ray. “We have been doing it during a tournament before, but we had a few cases where overaged players were fielded in qualification matches, only to come with ineligible players in later stages of the tournaments”, he said.

MRI was firstly applied by CAF in Rwanda U-17 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. The technology works more easily with the boys’ team.
