The government and its agencies have been challenged to be transparent in providing information to the public since access to information is the right of every citizen.

Speaking recently in an interview in Dar es Salaam, program officer from HakiElimu Media Advocacy Unit, Benedicta Mrema, said that most of the time citizens were facing difficulties in accessing information from public offices.

She said that some information was being denied even if they are not classified.

“Many of these reports or information is still kept in government shelves instead of being given to public for consumption,” said Mrema.

She said public offices have got the obligation of disclosing information to those in need of it. “We want everybody in this country to have access to information,” Mrema stressed. “Everyone present in the territory of this country should benefit form this right,” she added.
