Speaker of the National Assembly Anne Makinda has called on Tanzanians to work hard for their own development instead of depending support from foreign donors.
She aired the views at a brief function to bid farewell to outgoing coordinator of the Property and Business Formalisation Programme (Mkurabita) Ladslaus Salema and welcome the new coordinator, Seraphia Mgembe, held in Dar es Salaam at the weekend.
Makinda, who also doubles as chairman of the Mkurabita Leadership Committee, said true development of Tanzanians will only be brought by Tanzanians themselves.
“Donor support from abroad should only be used as a catalyst to further our development, not otherwise. Let us not expected that foreign support will bring us development,” she stressed.
For his part, outgoing Mkurabita coordinator thanked all Tanzanians for playing a role in bringing their own development and development of their country. “Many Tanzanians have used the opportunity created by the government through the Mortgage Financing law. I urge Mkurabita to continue educating Tanzanians so that we don’t let the chances benefit foreigners alone,” he said.
Salema said there so many opportunities which Tanzanians don’t know and therefore they don’t apply for them, giving room to foreigners to benefit to the country’s natural resources.
The new Mkurabita coordinator assured his predecessor that she would carry on all the good things he initiated.
