Zanzibar has decided to install huge security lights which use solar energy at the Darajani main bus stage in efforts to curb robberies in the area.
This was said by the State Minister in the President's Office (State House) Dr Mwinyihaji Makame Mwadini during the ongoing session of the House of Representatives at Chukwani in Zanzibar town on Thursday.
He said the Chinese government has agreed in principle to fund the project that would use solar energy to light different streets of Zanzibar municipality, including the Zanzibar main bus stage at Darajani.
Mwadini said some streets were infested with robbers at night, and since conventional electricity suffered from frequent outages, solar energy would provide the best solution in lighting the streets during the night.
Responding to the primary question asked by Muyuni constitency Representative Jaku Hashim Ayoub, Mwadini said the
Zanzibar government had plans to construct resting chambers for passengers at the bus terminal.
He said the sick and students have been having a hard time, especially when rains fell.
The minister said that architectural drawings have already been prepared and called on traders to come forward and cooperate with the government to ensure that the project was effected successfully.
“Construction of resting chambers at the bus terminal will help to reduce the inconveniences that passengers experience," said the minister.
Earlier, Jaku had wanted to know measures the government was planning to take to curb the inconveniences that passengers experienced while using the bus terminal, especially after night fall.
