Simba Sports Club.

Trouble Mainland premiership champions Simba who unceremoniously crashed out of the CAF Champions League in Angola over the weekend are expected home today.

The Tanzanian team lost both legs to Clube Recreative Desportivo does Libolo of Angola by 5-0 goal aggregates.

Simba have another hurdle to cross in the domestic league as title retention bid looks highly remote going by the prevailing circumstances.

The Dar es Salaam side has a ceiling to attain 55 points should they post wins in all of their remaining eight matches.

However, this is tall order as their archrivals Young Africans have been in superb form and might surpass the ceiling within the next few rounds as the premiership comes close to an end.

Simba have to fight hard to at least finish runners-up I the premierships as to secure a berth in CAF Confederation cup next year but not that much easy.

Besides Yanga, Simba have Azam to watch as the ice cream makers are equally title contenders with six points adrift of the pace makers.
Simba’s lacklustre season is coupled with a lot of reasons including internal management, change of coach and sale of precious striker Emmanuel Okwi during mid season transfer window.

The club is left to rue as it has complicated its technical bench with galore of coaches but without the much anticipated outcome on the field.

The elimination of Simba has left only one club from the Mainland that still remains flag bearers in CAF Confederation Cup. The ice cream makers dispatched South Sudan’s Al Nasr by 7-1 goal aggregate after posting 4-0 in the return leg played in Juba on Sunday.

Azam are making maiden appearance in the Confederation Cup having finished runners up in domestic league of the previous season.

Simba’s next fixture in the premiership is match against visiting Coastal Union from Tanga at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Sunday.

Both teams have attained 31 points with Simba having a game in hand after 18 appearances.

There is no option for the holders except to post a victory if anything is to flourish on their side in retaining title or finishing runners-up.

Simba are massive eleven points adrift of their archrivals Yanga who are perched at the standings table
