JK in Ghana for President`s burial

President Jakaya Kikwete left the country yesterday to join 15 other Heads of State and other renowned guests including the Secretary of States of United States of America, Hillary Clinton, the delegates are converging in Accra the capital of Ghana today to attend the burial of the late John Evans Atta Mills (pictured), former President of Ghana.

Mills died in a military hospital on the afternoon of on July 24 this year at the age of 69 and is expected to be buried at the Geese garden area. The cemetery is located along Castle Drive Street close to the Osu temple in Accra.

The last respect to the late Mills will be done at a special function to be held at Independence Square Garden, today. The late president Mills, who has been replaced by President John Dramani Makama will be buried in a tomb built by a Chinese government’s construction company- HL Construction.

The body of the late Mills will be moved through famous streets of Accra to allow the Ghanians to pay their last respects to their beloved leader.

Only yesterday, the body of the late President Mills was transferred from the 37 Military Hospital to a family house located on the Spintex road for traditional burial procedures.

Thereafter, the body of the late Mills will be transferred to the State House’s right Mansion the designated venue to conduct presidential burial ceremonies. It will remain here until the Independence Square burial.

Among the people who had paid last respect yesterday is former Ghananian president, John Kuffor who was the late Mills’ predecessor. Musical and traditional groups continue to play at the state house, day and night.
