Tanzanian professional boxer Francis Cheka has been lined up to contest with American Marcus Upshaw in the Intercontinental bout to be staged at the Diamond Jubilee in Dar es Salaam on May 1.
Aurora Company’s public relations officer Shomari Kimbau said the bout is sanctioned by the International Boxing Federation, IBF.
Kimbau said Cheka’s opponent is ranked 37th in the World and sixth in the United States of America.
Cheka, who is top ranked at home, is at the 134th position worldwide.
"Cheka has been contesting with boxers who were unranked and unknown and the next month’s bout is aimed at making his mark on global stage," said Kimbau.
Cheka seized the opportunity to contest with the American boxer after IBF reviewed records of his bout against England’s tenth ranked Mathew Maclean.
Cheka said he is now under intensive training for the next month’s bout so as to make his presence felt before global boxing fraternity.
