Boxing Federation of Tanzania, BFT, has landed a lucrative 28m/= sponsorship deal from Dar es Salaam based Jovet Company to cater for the national open boxing championship.
BFT’s secretary general Mashanga Makore said the company has relieved the federation’s long standing headache as the boxing event is getting closer.
Makore said the sponsorship fund would cater for organising costs that include payment for visiting teams’ accommodation and other miscellaneous expenditures.
“The sponsorship has come at the right time for the right time and in the right direction as we were totally in disarray to stage the tourney,” said Makore.
The sponsorship is the biggest ever to be secured by the BFT since the new leadership came into power early this year.
Makore would not declare whether the sponsorship fund package is sufficient or not in connection with the tournament’s pre-set budgetary estimates.
The sponsoring firm’s manager John Kessy said his company is happy to be associated with the development of sports in the country, particularly boxing.
The boxing championship was earlier scheduled to be held in Singida region but sponsorship trouble necessitated the transfer of venue to Dar es Salaam.
The event now gets underway on August 17 at Leaders Club in Dar es Salaam.
