The netball association of Tanzania (CHANETA) is in search of funds to meet the expenditures of staging the season’s first division league most likely to be hosted by Mbeya region in September.

Chaneta acting secretary general Rose Mkisi said at least the body needs to raise 16m/- to cater for payment of various payments.

She said Chaneta’s current strategy is to lure corporate sponsors and some of the proceeds are expected from the participation fee of the competing teams.

The Chaneta official said about twenty teams have been lined-up to compete in the championship and all of them would pay for their own accommodation and other miscellaneous.

Should all plans go ahead as expected, the league will be played for eight days starting from September 8.

“Each team will pay 200,000/- as participating fee and 60,000/- for registration. The money will help us to cover the cost of hosting the event and at the same time we have requested companies and individuals to help us,” she said

Competing teams were supposed to observe July 30 deadline as all clubs were supposed to submit tournament forms so as to ease competition committee’s job including preparations of the fixture.

The national team coach, Marry Protas, and her technical panel will use the tournament as a stage to select players for the national team.

The selected players will form a team expected to travel to Singapore for continental netball championship.

“The coach wants to beef up the national team with new players and the only place where she can select them is at the first division tournament in Mbeya,” she said
