ARS regional champions out

Mbande Secondary school’s 2-1 victory over Kurasini Secondary School yesterday enabled Tirav to be crowned champions of Airtel Rising Stars in Temeke Region, having drawn 2-2 with Kurasini in their first match and won 3-0 against Mbande on Wednesday.

Mbande finished second, having lost to Tirav and winning against Kurasini. Kurasini came third in the regional Airtel Rising Stars tournament whose national finals are set to commence at the Karume Memorial Stadium in Dar es Salaam next week.

In yesterday’s match, both teams kicked off on a high note with Kurasini dominating the opening minutes. Their efforts paid off in the 21st minute when Mwalami Ally scored the opening goal, sending shock waves to Mbande strikers who launched a series of attacks in search of an equalizer.

Goodluck Raymond leveled matters for his team in the 51st minute before Jackson Samuel scored the all important goal for his team in the 74th minute.

In Ilala Region, Msogola were declared champions despite drawing 1-1 with hosts Airwing secondary at Airwing ground yesterday. Airwing registered the opener through Hallen James in the 32nd minute while Dickson Alphonce equalized for his team in the 87 minute.

Elsewhere, Twiga secondary were announced Kinondoni champions when they drew 2-2 against Goba Secondary at Mwenge ground yesterday, having won 1-0 against Mpigi Magohe Secondary in their previous match.

In Mbeya, the regional champions are Southern Highland secondary school who won two matches, against Mbeya Day and Wenda Secondary School. Nkowe Secondary hammered Mpunyule Secondary 3-0 in a one-sided match at Ilulu Stadium in Lindi yesterday.
