Tanzania tennis players are gearing up for Tango open championship that gets underway at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club courts on July 25.
Players from all over the country have been advised to register for the tournament. The event will be used by Tanzania Tennis Association, TTA, to select under-14 players who are expected to feature in next month’s International Tennis Federation’s sanctioned events in Bujumbura and Kigali.
A provisional squad of eleven under-14 players has been selected by TTA, and will be trimmed to four according to coach Salim Mvita.
The ITF tourney will also feature other competitors from the rest of Eastern Africa countries. Mvita named the provisional squad for the ITF tourneys as Shaban Ibrahim, Tumaini Martin, Abou Hamis, Hafidh Hamis, Goodluck Cheremo, Mohamed Abdallah and John Njau.
Others are Pili Makoye, Ibrahim Kessy, Salum Msafiri and Lydia Lucas.
Arusha based Ibrahim excelled during the last ITF event held in Dar es Salaam in May when he lost the final to Sudanese Nouredin Adam in a five set thriller.
Meanwhile, Dar es salaam Gymkhana Club will also host the annual Tanga Cement open tennis championships next month.
