The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura) yesterday announced an average of five per cent price decrease for petroleum products in the country.

Ewura director general Haruna Masebu said the retail prices for petrol have decreased by 170/- or 7.81 per cent per litre, diesel by 98/- or 4.81 per cent per litre and kerosene by 102/- or 5.05 per cent per litre.

“The retail and wholesale prices are applicable effective today,’’ he said, attributing the changes to a dercline in oil prices in the world market.

Masebu said the authority will continue to encourage competition in the sector by making available the petroleum products pricing information and this to include price caps.

In Dar es Salaam, petrol will sell at 2,009/- , diesel at 1,943/- and kerosene at 1,926/- per litre.

The new wholesale cap prices in Dar es Salaam will be: petrol 1,934.83/-, diesel 1,868.77/- and kerosene 1,851.59/- per litre.

In Arusha the new retail prices will be: petrol 2,093/-, diesel 2,027/- and kerosene 2,010/- per litre.

Mwanza: petrol 2,159/-, diesel 2,093/- and kerosene 2,075/- per litre.

Kigoma: petrol 2,240/-, diesel 2,174/- and kerosene 2,156/- per litre.
