The Tanzania Tennis Association (TTA) in conjunction with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) have introduced tennis lessons in primary and secondary schools in the country at the end of the rainy period.
The national tennis youth coach, Hassan Kassim, said ITF development officer for East Africa Thierry Ntwari who visited the country on 30th April told youth coaches that the international body will support the project.
He said ITF will support the development by providing equipments in earmarked schools.
He said the programme is under the ITF tennis initiative in schools and will start in Dar es Salaam at Oysterbay Primary and Secondary Schools, later expanding to other schools in the city. He said under the programme, special emphasis has been placed on juniors.
In another development, Kassim said Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) youth coach Salim Mvita has been appointed the head of the programme and will be assisted by other youth coaches.
