Atletico of Burundi lethal striker Didier Kavumbagu has signed a two-year contract with Yanga, the team’s spokesman Louis Sendeu has said.

Sendeu said yesterday that the striker arrived in the country on Friday night to join Cecafa Kagame Cup champions Young Africans (Yanga).

Sendeu told the press in Dar es Salaam that the player will wear jersey number 21. “He trained with the team in the morning. We hope that we have recruited the right player who will deliver well in league and international assignments,” Sendeu affirmed.

Kavumbagu scored two goals for Atletico when the team played Yanga in the opening match of the just ended Kagame Cup.

The coming of the Kavumbagu makes Yanga have four foreign players. Others are Ugandan Hamisi Kiiza, Haruna Niyonzima (Rwanda) and Yaw Berko (Ghana). They still have one chance to make the number of the foreign players reach five.

Sendeu said that Yanga will today travel to Dodoma to take the regional trophy, which they won, to the National Assembly.

He said that Yanga will travel with the full squad including the new recruit in their Bunge appearance tomorrow.

In another development, the Yanga executive committee is expected to meet in Dar es Salaam today to discuss club development issues.

He said the committee will also discuss how to award their new striker Said Bahanuzi who solidly contributed to their Kagame Cup victory.

Bahanuzi was named the best scorer of the regional tournament organized by the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa).

The former Mtibwa Sugar striker registered six goals.
