Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) has advised the Tanzania Marine Swimming Club to put more emphasis on developing young swimmers so that it moves with youth development that has taken place in the world.
TSA secretary general Noel Kiunsi said this in response to plans by Tanzania Marine Swimming Club to organize many courses on swimming and safety in the country during a two-day course held at the Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial College in Kigamboni.
Kiunsi said the two - swimming and safety - are very important but much interest should be to youth development.
“We appreciate that Tanzania Marine Swimming Club has taken another step of improving the game by organizing swimming and safety among people who use our waters, but we are also asking you to consider giving the youth more priority,” he said.
Geoffrey Kimimba, who is Tanzania Marine Swimming Club chairman, speaking at the course attended by many young swimmers, said his club will make sure that youth are given priority.
“We have plans to take the game of swimming to young swimmers. You can see we had many young swimmers at our just ended swimming and safety course,” he said.
Kimimba thanked Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) who donated equipment worthy 5m/- to facilitate staging of the course.
He said the course helped many of the participants to know how to swim during difficult times, use swimming equipment, rescuing and other safety issues.
He asked other companies to emulate a good example set by TCRA.
