The Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) expects to pick four referees out of the bunch attending a FINA organised course that starts in Dar es Salaam today.
The selected referees would be availed with an opportunity to attend another FINA advanced course tenable in Lusaka later in September.
TSA general secretary Noel Kiunsi said the international swimming body (FINA) has advised his association to select top best referees from the ongoing course.
A total of 20 referees are expected to attend the seminar in Dar es Salaam that winds up on Sunday.
Kiunsi said FINA needs only referees who perform well to attend its course most likely to be held in Zambia or Zimbabwe should any change made.
The four most outstanding referees would be fully sponsored to attend the FINA international course, so says Kiunsi.
In another development, TSA said plans are underway to organise a local coaching seminar.
Kiunsi said the coaches’ seminar will be held ahead of TSA’s projected mission of countrywide swimming promotion.
“We want to organize a coaching seminar for all local swimming coaches and thereafter we will start our program of visiting regions,” said Kiunsi
Kiunsi said the country has many swimming coaches working in the army and other private pools and yachting clubs.
He said these coaches need a refresher course so that they would be updated on some changes which the swimming game has gone through.
He said this would help his association to ease promotion of the game.
However, Kiunsi said TSA is looking for sponsor to boost the swimming promotion in the country.
