Azania bank Limited has donated body lotions to the Albino Society of Tanzania to help them overcome the challenge of sun burns.
Speaking before handing over the donation to the society in Dar es Salaam yesterday, a director with the bank Godwin Seiya, said the donation worth 3m/- would help to reach albinos who cannot afford to buy the lotion.
He said by recognising the challenges and difficulties people with albinism face, the bank has donated special lotion which will help them to protect their skins from being damaged by direct sunlight.
He noted that the support is in respect to the Seventh Tanzania Albino Day celebrations which started on Wednesday and end today being held at the national level in Lindi municipality.
“We urge other citizens, organisations and companies in Tanzania to use part of their profits to help fellow citizens and communities with problems and challenges,” he said.
For her part, Treasurer of Tanzania Albino Society Hellen Machibya, challenged other organisations in the country to imitate the bank’s gesture by showing readiness to assist people with albinism.
“I thank the Azania Bank management for this positive gesture towards people with albinism by setting aside part of their profits to assist us,” she said.
Machibya said her society is facing the challenge of serving a large number of members who cannot afford buying lotion because of their economic problems.
She also urged the government to consider revising the tax law, and if possible wave tax on those special lotions so as to make them afforded by many albinos.
“The price of these sun lotions is too high for many albinos in Tanzania given their economic status.
At the moment a single piece of the lotion is sold at 35,000/, the price they believe not many can afford, she noted.
