Twiga Stars fly to Addis Ababa

The national women soccer team, Twiga Stars, are expected to board a flight to Addis Ababa later this evening ahead of their Sunday’s first leg tie of the African women Championship qualifier against Ethiopia.

The deputy minister for Information, Culture, Youth and Sports, Amos Makalla, blessed the team and handed them a national flag for the campaign in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

 Twiga Stars contingent comprise 24 people, including players and officials for the Addis Ababa trip.

The deputy minister wished the team the best of luck while maintaining discipline even at torrid moments during their Ethiopian tour.

The return leg tie will be played in Dar es Salaam on June 16 to decide a team to progress at the AWC tourney to be staged in Equatorial Guinea.

 Players boarding the flight this evening include Amina Ally, Asha Rashid (skipper), Ester Chabruma, Ettoe Mlenzi, Evelyn Sekikubo, Fadhila Hamad, Fatuma Bashiri, Fatuma Khatib, Fatuma Mustafa, Fatuma Omari, Maimuna Said, Mwajuma Abdallah, Mwanahamisi Omari, Mwanaidi Tamba, Mwapewa Mtumwa, Rukia Hamis, Semeni Abeid and Zena Khamis.

 The trip has coach Charles Mkwasa and his assistant Nasra Mohamed, team manager Furaha Francis, kit manager Mwanahamisi Abdallah and physician Christina Luambano.

  The Tanzania Women Football Association’s chairperson Line Mhando is the head of the delegation.

The team expects to board return flight on Monday to prepare for the return leg.

Twiga qualified to play the final round of the qualifiers after sending packing Namibia by 7-2 goals aggregates, winning the return leg at home 5-2 in March.
