Simba SC are expected to get a heroic welcome when they return home tomorrow from Algeria where they eliminated ES Setif in the Confederation Cup tournament on Friday.
Club sources said yesterday that scores of fans and club members will line up the road from the Julius Nyerere International Airport in the morning to celebrate the win as the team arrives.
Simba lost 1-3 at the hands of hosts ES Setif in the return leg match staged at the Stade Mai 8, 1945 on Friday but advanced into the last 16 on the basis of away goals advantage. Simba hit ES Setif 2-0 in the first leg match in Dar es Salaam two weeks ago.
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) information officer, Boniface Wambura, said yesterday that the Msimbazi Street side left Algiers yesterday afternoon for Cairo to connect tomorrow’s flight.
They now wait to play the winner between El Ahly Shandy of Sudan and Ferroviario de Maputo of Mozambique, their second leg tie being held today.
In another development, TFF said it will provide all assistance to Simba as they prepare for the next round of the continental competition.
Wambura said TFF will meet Simba officials to plan the way forward. The federation knows that Simba’s success is not for them alone but for the whole nation and asked all Tanzanians to stand together with the team.
