Tanzania tennis team receiving a trophy from Tanga Cement national sales manager, Leslie Masawe(C), after the Tanzania junior Championship at Dar es salaam Gymkhana Club over the weekend.
Eight local tennis players will represent the country at the coming Africa Tennis Junior Championships (AJC) slated for March in Nairobi, Kenya.
The players emerged the best at the one week long ITF /CAT East African Tennis Junior Championships which were held at the Dar es Gymkhana Club (DGC).
Youths from Kenya, Sudan, Djibouti, Rwanda, Burundi and the host Tanzania competed at the event which was locally sponsored by Tanga Cement.
Naming the players, coach Hassani Kassimu said he was delighted that the country has managed to have eight youths who will compete at the AJC.
He thanked the players for showing commitment and dedication at the tournament and asked them to keep working hard so that they perform well at the Kenya event.
Kassimu named the players in the Under 15 boys category as Goodluck Shelemo and Tumaini Martini while Under 14 boys are Emmanuel Nicodemus and Frank Menadi.
In the girls category, he named Regina John and Zuhura Baraka as Under 14 players while Rahabu Shabani and Georgina Kaindowa will represent the country in Under 16 category.
“First of all, I’m very happy that our eight players have managed to qualify for the ACJ games. On top of that, I’m also happy that we emerged on the second position with 660 points. We hope that the team will perform well at the Kenya event,” he said.
On her remarks, the Tanga Cement communications officer, Mtanga Noor said the company will continue helping tennis in the country.
