TCA official, Kazim Nasser

The fifth edition of the Advanced Players’ cricket tournament gets underway at the Leaders Club in Dar es Salaam today as all foreign-based players have arrived in readiness for the show.

The Tanzania Cricket Association official, Kazim Nasser, said four franchised teams have confirmed to compete as the 16 foreign players have been distributed to the teams.
Nasser said the foreigners arrived in Dar es Salaam as expected yesterday and would join their respective teams for practise sessions this morning.
The opening game of the event is expected to start later in the afternoon as Gyproc Strikers vs Maxx Changers lock horns in the opener.
Other competing franchised teams are
Castle lager Rockets (Tanzania Breweries Ltd.) and Dikdiks (Dar International Cricketers).
Gyproc Strikers and Maxx Changers are franchise teams for Gyproc - Saint Gobain and Maxx Bureau De Change.
Behind the tournament sponsorship are SBS Bottlers and K.H. Khimji Ltd.
The tournament winds up on Sunday ahead of another version of Twenty20 showdown.
Since the tournament was inaugurated in 2009 it has played a huge role to improve the standard of the game for the domestic-based cricketers and served as entertainment for the fans, particularly in Dar e Salaam.
The centrally located Leaders Club venue, which has now been constructed with natural turf, will be used throughout the tourney as confirmed by the organisers.
All firms that own the franchise teams distributed sport kits on Tuesday.
