Athletics Tanzania (AT) has pushed back the national cross country championships to next month and changed the venue as well. The event was earlier supposed to be held this month.
AT secretary general Suleiman Nyambui said the championship was planned to held in Kilimanjaro and the new date is March 10 in Morogoro.
The reason for change of date and venue is to get enough time and raise 24m/- needed for the event.
The change of the venue has been necessitated by unavailability of the venue in Moshi while Morogoro will be ready and free to host the event.
Nyambui said the development is a blessing in disguise as it will give residence of Morogoro the opportunity to watch the championship.
“We have decided to push the event back to March, we hope this will give regions a very good opportunity to prepare well for the tourney and it will also give us the opportunity to look for 24 m/- which we need to stage the event”, he said.
The AT official said the event will be used select athletes who will represent the country at the World Cross Country set for Bydgoszcz in Poland in March.
He encouraged regions to field young athletes at the event so as to boost their confidence and morale.
