Organisers of the Kilimanjaro marathon scheduled for early next month in Moshi have not changed the route as the event gets closer.
Leading the organising team, John Addison said in a statement yesterday that the marathon route will start at the MUCCoBS Stadium and go down towards the Moshi Municipality and then along the main road to Dar es Salaam.
The route is relatively flat, and there are plenty of well-wishers along the road.
The organisers have hired local music bands for entertaining both the crowd and competitors.
“In order to make the route safe for runners, certain sections of the road will be closed in the morning but alternative routes around town are available for residents,” says Addison.
“Moshi residents who intend to join the fray can start training on the route ahead of the event in order to acclimatise and stay in good shape,” he said.
The fifth edition of the event has attracted a galore of sponsors that include Kilimanjaro Water and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
Besides the full marathon, competitors will also be allowed to take part in half marathon, five-kilometre fun race and a special race for disabled athletes.
The organisers have set a side fabulous prizes for winners and the event is expected to draw participants from foreign countries as well. ends
