The organisers of this year’s edition of Kilimanjaro marathon have set aside fabulous prizes to be won.
The prize package is the same for both men and women winners. A total of 20 million shillings will be shared by the first three winners in the full marathon category.
Three million shillings is earmarked for the winner, half of the amount for the runners-up and third placed finisher has 850,000/- to take home.
Besides the above mentioned prize package, the organizers have also given a special priority to three top placed finishers who are Tanzanians.
The bonus package has been introduced to inspire home based athletes to step up their competence in the show that has in the past being dominated by foreigners, particularly Kenyans.
With the new special package, the Tanzanians are expected to provide stiff competition to keep the title at home.
Top placed athlete in the half marathon will be entitled to a cash prize of 1.5 million shillings, half of the amount for the runners-up and one fourth of the same amount for the second runners-up.
Prize package for the disabled winners is 300,000 and half of the amount for the runners-up. Third placed among disabled will be entitled to the cash prize of 50.000/-
Promotional merchandise will be given to the winners of the five-kilometer fun race and an opportunity to win raffle prizes.
The event has secured a galore of sponsors including Kilimanjaro Water and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
