Two goals scored by Kipre Tchetche and one by Kassim Abdi were enough to earn Azam FC a 3-1 win over Al Nasir Juba of South Sudan yesterday.

The two newcomer clubs were playing a Confederation Cup, first round leg match at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Abdi Kassim headed home the first goal in the 12th minute when he used well Kipre Tchetche’s cross to beat goalie Johnson Sebit. Fobian Elias later equalised for the visitors in the 40th minute.

Kipre Tchetche headed home a Khamis Mcha cross in the 81st minute to register the second before adding the third in injury time, after using a John Bocco pass in injury time.

The teams will meet in the return leg match in two weeks time.

Azam FC coach Stewart Hall said his boys played well but not to the extent he expected. The Englishman said that he will rectify mistakes which he noticed and make sure that they win by a wider margin in the return leg match.

On his part the visitors’ coach Ramzi Sebit Lumore said that his players failed to counter the home side because of the climate.

Meanwhile, Mainland premier league champions Simba today play Recreativo do Libolo of Angola in the African Champions League first leg match at the same venue.
