Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club golf course was closed last Saturday in honour of veteran member Sharad Salgar (70) who died in Mumbai.
Salgar’s death has sent grieving shockwaves to the entire golf fraternity as he used to be more than a golfer.
Salgar who worked with Aluminum Africa as a director was hospitalized in Mumbai after a short illness.
Dar Gymkhana’s golf captain Joseph Tango said communications are still going on as plans for Salgar’s cremation are underway upon arrival of the body in Dar es Salaam.
Salgar joined the club in early 80’s and has been a consistent member for all the years and used to sponsor Aluminum Africa tournament on annual basis for several decades.
Salgar will be missed by all members of the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana particularly the golf section where he used to play his recreational game.
Captain Tango said the entire membership fleet of the DGC has been shocked by the death of Salgar that left a huge gap in terms of his charisma and sportsmanship links.
Tango said the club and golf section in particular joins Salgar’s family at this difficult moment of mourning.
“We have no option as Salgar’s death has brought the entire club to a standstill that Saturday”, said Tango.
