Fomer Mainland champions Young Africans have been told to refill nine positions in their executive committee panel for the club to make decisions and synchronise with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) constitutional requirements.

Only three out of the 13 members who form the full executive committee are left after the rest have resigned and one died. The number of the present members are ineligible to function and can not make any decision owing to insufficient quorum.

The Tanzania Football Federation’s Legal, Ethics and Players Status Committee has advised that Yanga have to hold elections in conformity with the club’s constitution.

TFF’s electoral committee has ordered Yanga to embark on election procedures effective June 1 so as to fill the vacant committee members as per the club’s article 28.

 Yanga have been told to adhere to their constitution and not overlook the TFF’s constitution regarding its affiliated members.
 July 15 is the date advised by the TFF for Yanga to conduct elections and fill the vacant posts.

Yanga are free to select venue, time and all other electoral procedures as long as they conduct the election in free and fair situation.

The general meeting of the members should have only one agenda, to fill the vacant posts and nothing more. TFF’s objective is to make sure Yanga restores its committee members through a constitutionally accepted ways.

Yanga’s electoral committee must work with its counterparts within TFF as per chapter 49(1) and Yanga’s constitution’s chapter 45(1) and (2).

Yanga have been embroiled in leadership crisis leading to the resignation of its chairman Lloyd Nchunga on Thursday last week.

Nchunga’s resignation has been preceded by resignation of executive committee members from thirteen down to three.

The number of members in the executive committee makes it ineligible to make club decisions as it falls short of the constitution’s required quorum.
 Over 700 members had met nine days ago and opted to overthrow Nchunga’s leadership but the coup d’etat was not approved by the TFF.

Yanga members had sought directives from TFF on how best to handle the situation and the football federation responded through ordering an election process yesterday.

Yanga crisis gained tempo as their team lost terribly to archrivals Simba in the five-goal heaviest rout on May 6.

The defeat ignited anger and frustration throughout the membership fleet to demand an immediate resignation of their chairman who happened to be Nchunga.

Initially, Nchunga had resisted the pressure but then made an abrupt U-turn to step down.

 Nchunga was disliked by Yanga ever since he seized power through a general election held in July 2010 to replace Imani Madega.

 However, Nchunga survived the purge early on after leading the club to win newly introduced Community Shield title against their bitter rivals Simba.

Nchunga was flying high with the club to freeze rowdy members when he again led the club to win its third Mainland premiership title in four years.

No sooner had the celebrations dust   settled, Nchunga was again meeting satisfaction of the members through adding the third silverware collection in the cabinets, the Kagame Cup, barely three months after the premiership crown.
