Tanzania Olympic Committee has organised a ten-day course for hockey coaches in the country to be conducted in Tanga from May 7.
The Tanzania Hockey Association secretary general Kaushik Doshi confirmed of the course that would be attended by 26 participants from both sides of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Doshi said the TOC have got the blessing of the International Olympic Committee to go ahead with the coaching course.
The 26 coaches lined up for the course are as follows.
1. Merica Kahola, Ignas Luena, Joyce Kalawa, Mnonda Magani, Kazi Ally, Silvester Kigodi, Magreth Eliud, Osman Bairu and Kanuti Komba all from Dar es Salaam.
Moshi duo is Rajab Mpepo and Nitesh Virji while Emmanuel Lowani is the only participant from Arusha.
While Kigoma region is represented by Alfred Mapile, Tanga trio are Shamshuddin Baddrudin, Gulamali Abdulkader and Noorhassan bin Mohamed.
The course has also included ten coaches from Zanzibar and these are Juma Makame Mohd, Hamdan Hassan, Khalfan Abdalla Maabad, Othman Manzi Said, Makame Mshenga Makame, Rashid Suleiman Ally, Bakari Khamis Mussa, Mgeni Haji Machano, Faki Haji Makame and Muhajiri Ally Chande.
The Federal International Hockey (FIH) has named Pakistani Tahir Zaman as the course conductor. Zaman is a reputed
FIH grade one field hockey coach and a member of FIH expert group of coaches’ panel and high performance committee member.
Zaman, has played three consecutive Olympic hockey tournaments and as many World Cups, seven times Champions Trophy and captained his country for eleven years.
He served as an Egyptian national team coach last year. This is his second visit to Tanzania, the last being seven years ago when he visited Zanzibar.
Zaman is flying into country is expected to fly in tomorrow.
All the participants have been booked into a hotel and would be looked after. Doshi further said that this course has come at the right time for coaches to update their standard to meet required international level and put into practice the knowledge gained.
