Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club’s lady captain’s golf tournament that tees off on Sunday has received a huge cash boost to the tune of 21m/-, courtesy of the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) yesterday.
The bank’s manager for events and sponsorship Rachael Kimambo said her firm is proud to be associated with the event.
She said the bank is committed to improve sports development in the country and the sponsorship will improve women participation into game.
“We know the importance of sports in building better health and hence our decision to support golfers, especially women of the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC),” she said.
Kimambo made a pledge on behalf of the bank to spearhead the development of golf in the country.
DGC lady golf captain Vivienne Mwaulambo thanked the bank for the donation which she said will help to improve the game.
Though the event is exclusive for DGC, invitations have been extended to other lady golfers from other clubs countrywide.
Over 30 women golfers have confirmed to participate in the tournament, as the number is expected to increase. More golfers are expected to come all the way from Arusha, Morogoro, Moshi and elsewhere.
Junior golfers of either sex have also been invited to feature in the event on subsidiary basis. Mwaulambo, who made her stride to engage into the game barely five years ago, has served the club as a captain for one year term with possible re-election.
The bank’s sponsorship package might be the biggest ever for such closed events at the club level.
