The winner of this year’s Redds Miss Tanzania will not contest for 2012 Miss World title.
Miss Tanzania co-ordinator Hashim Lundenga said yesterday the queen would instead represent the country at the next year’s event.
Lundenga said the move was caused by the Miss World organisers who had shifted its finals from December to August.
“Because of the Miss World calendar change, we have noticed that Miss Tanzania 2012 winner will not beat the deadline. It means that Miss World will be held before we get our winner who we always get August or September,” he said, adding that Miss World contestants will be required to report in China by July.
He said the change of the was reached at a Miss World organizing committee meeting in London last year. Genevieve Mpangala represented the country at the London contest.
Lundenga said they would, therefore, stage a mini Miss Tanzania contest in May to get a queen who will represent the country at the contest set for August in China.
He said his committee would do scouting to get 10 aspirants who would vie for the final slated for May.
“This will be another chance for previous Miss Tanzania aspirants to try their luck,” Lundenga added.
Meanwhile, Lundenga said Miss Tanzania 2013 agents will be named next week.
He said that they will go a special seminar in Dar es Salaam before the end of this month.
Tanzania has never performed well in the Miss World. Only Nancy Sumary won Miss World Africa in 2005.
