Famous Tanzanian boxer Rashid Matumla has complained over his opponent’s sever weight loss during their IBF super middleweight bout staged in Berlin a fortnight ago.
Matumla said Simon Benjamin created an alibi for weight loss and gained advantage during their fight when the Tanzanian lost through a fourth-round technical knockout.
The Tanzanian boxer’s bid to return home with an international belt suffered a huge blow when he was beaten fairly and squarely.
He complains the weight reduction worked right in favour of his opponent who looked stronger and lighter than before when the duo met in 2008.
Despite the loss Matumla still boasts of having represented the country at the contest to keep the national flag flapping high.
During the fight he recalls to have heard cheers from a handful of Tanzanians who took trouble to give him the needed support.
“I was amazed by presence of Tanzanians in Germany as they came in numbers to support me. I wish I could please them with a win but things did not work in my way,” he said.
The boxer has not given up hope as he trains to keep himself fit while shrugging off decision to retire from the boxing ring.
