Visiting Arsenal FC community development coach Alikhan Popat who arrived in the country last week gets down to business as he conducts football training at the Saba Saba Primary School in Mwanza Region today.

The Tanzania Street Children Sports academy (TSC) who are the organizers of the visit, said another coach John Olalaye has failed to travel due to family commitments.

Popat will have to endure a three months coaching project while hoping for his colleague to recover and join him later.

TSC director Mutani Yangwe said the coach would start to train 126 players from under 12, 14 and 17 at the TSC centre this morning.

According Yangwe, the coach will also conduct trainings at four primary schools in the region for under 14 boys and girls teams. The primary schools which stand to benefit from the project are Saba Saba, Mwenge, Nyanza and Igoma.

He said the Arsenal coach will be joined by his counterparts at the TSC centre Jock Dominic and Rogasian Kaijage.

Yangwe also said the coach will conduct three days coaching course for coaches at CCM Kirumba Stadium.

Participants of the course are sports teachers from primary and secondary schools in the region, coaches from street football teams and all people involved in youth sports development in the Mwanza.

He said the Kirumba coaching course is very important to sports development in the country.

The training will be centred on basic principals of football, nurturing talents and also how players will be handled after they graduate from their respective youth teams.

“The course is timely and will further football development from grassroots, participating coaches will be able to teach football to young players”, he said.
