Tanzania and South Africa have re-affirmed commitment to strengthen economic and bilateral ties through efficient implementation of the Bi-National Commission (BNC) signed recently by the two countries.

The two countries revealed their commitments in Dar es Salaam at an occasion to mark South Africa's National Day held on Friday.

In his speech, South African High Commissioner Thandusyise Chiliza said, "Today, we celebrate the unique nature of the South African struggle for liberation, which although was a war against racism, was never a racial struggle."
He added, "We celebrate building from the Ashes of Apartheid, a country that is dedicated to patriotism, nation building and reconciliation."

The High Commissioner paid a growing tribute to Tanzania. He said, "To the people of Tanzania, we remain grateful for the support that was given in the struggle against apartheid and the liberation of our people."

He said the historic bond shared between the two brotherly countries had laid a solid foundation for “our excellent bilateral" ties characterised by several smart partnership testimonies.

In reciprocation, the Minister of State in the President's Office (Good Governance) George Mkuchika said the freedom of South Africa was historic in the sense that all peace loving people in the world cherished it. "We feel proud of the fact that their efforts were not in vain and as a result, we have a free South Africa which is a multi-racial and democratic society,” he said.
