Organisers of the annual under-17 national football championships, the Copa Coca-Cola, have almost doubled cash prizes for the tournament’s winners to 8m/-, an increment of 3.5m/- from the previous year.
The organizers have also introduced a new incentive for the most outstanding referee to 800,000/-.
The finals would attract teams from 28 regions from Mainland and Zanzibar.
Making a presentation at the Copa Coca-Cola directive seminar held at the National Stadium over the weekend, the firm’s director of public affairs and communication, Evans Mlelwa, said the first runners up team has 4.8m/- to take home and third placed side has 3.2m/-.
The best disciplined team’s cash prize has been increased from one million to 1.6m, while best player, scorer and goalkeeper will each get 800,000 an increase from half million shillings from the previous season.
This is the sixth year since Coca-Cola started sponsoring the youth football championship that kicks off from the grassroots level.
The tourney aims at talent scouting and identification in Tanzania.
Mlelwa underlined his firm’s commitment to continue working together with the Tanzania Football Federation and the Ministry for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports in promoting football.
Players’ registration for the tourney is in progress throughout the country and the district level tournament is scheduled to kick off next month and wind up on May 5.
According to TFF, the district Copa Coca-Cola matches will be held from May 16 to 25 ahead of the national championship to be held in Dar es Salaam and Coast region between June and July.
