More than half of orphanages in the country are operating without being registered because they have not met terms and conditions, deputy Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Seif Rashidi told the NationalAssembly here yesterday.

The deputy was responding to a supplementary question posed by Magdarena Sekaya (special seat-CUF) who had wished to know a number of registered orphanages and how they perform their duties.

Dr Rashid said about 99 orphanages out of 292 had fully registration after they were examined by the government and found to have needed standards.

“The majority of children home centres which have not met terms and condition and that they operate without having meet the needed standard. The government thereby instructs all none licensed orphanages to ensure they meet standard or else close operation,” he marked.

In adding, the deputy said about 3958 children camped in 98 orphanages were provided with needed services as recognised by the government.

Dr Rashidi said the government in connection with other institutions and ministries, stakeholders and private institutions have been undertaking, monitoring and evaluating all over the country to establish exactly number of centres if they are or not registered.

He said in all the registered and licensed centres, children are provided with care, education, food and security as instructed by the government terms and conditions.
