Tanzania Education Authority (TEA) intends to conduct a fund raiser event to collect 2.3b/- which hoped to enable the construction of 30 hostels for female students across the country.

Speaking to journalists in Dar es Salaam, TEA Communication Officer, Lusajo Mwakabuku, said the aim of the project is to support the Government to accomplish its plan of constructing one hundred hostels in the country.

He said the project will boost female student performance citing the lack of proper housing as a player behind poor performance among female students in the country.

“Some of them rent rooms near their schools..” explained the officer, “…it is not good since they lack close supervision from their parents…”

He added that the fund raising is expected to take place on 14th of this month at the Kibaigwa Secondary School in Dodoma and that a total number of 1504 students from eight regions will benefit from the project.

The hostels will cost an estimated 78 million Tshs each and the regions to benefit include Dodoma, Manyara, Tanga, Ruvuma, Lindi, Mara, Mwanza and Kigoma. Attending the fundraiser will be, among others, various Government officers including Ministers, some members of Parliament and other education stakeholders.
