Sweden has given Tanzania a total of 200bn/= for the 2012/2013 financial year, commending it for intensifying the war against corruption.

Announcing the package at a reception to mark the Swedish National Day on Wednesday, Ambassador Lennarth Hjelmakerat said: “For Sweden as a long term friend and development partners, it is important to find in what way we can continue to play an effective role in our support for Tanzania."

He added that future cooperation will be based on clear expectations of results, to identify where the Swedish contribution and partnership will lead to a positive development for people most in need.

He said as stated by the Swedish Minister for Finance, Anders Borg during a recent visit to Tanzania Sweden is presently in the process of reviewing a new strategy for partnership with Tanzania, saying while the work is being finalized, Sweden for 2012 has allocated SEK 800million for Tanzania, that is about 200bn/= , adding that it has also become a member of the troika that performs the dialogue with the government of Tanzania on General Budget Support.

"We look forward to broaden our relationships with Tanzania and put more effort into areas such as co-operation between institutions, twinning arrangements, trade between our countries, investment, business and many others" said the Swedish Ambassador.
