The Civic United Front (CUF) yesterday said that it’s ready to cooperate with other opposition parties in Parliament, including Chadema, in forming the shadow government to give the camp more weight and impact.

Speaking to The Guardian yesterday through telephone from Dodoma, former leader of the opposition camp, Hamad Rashid Mohamed of the CUF said his party had already discussed the matter with the newly elected leader of the official opposition in the House, Freeman Mbowe.

“We had a discussion with Mbowe. We hope that he will work on the matter because we are ready to cooperate with all opposition parties in Parliament, even the CUF first Zanzibar Vice President Seif Sharif Hamad told us to corporate with other opposition parties in Parliament because we still belong to the opposition,” he said.

He said even CUF formed an alternative government without involving other opposition parties in 2005, but after consultation, it was agreed to involve MPs from other political partiers.

When contacted, deputy leader of opposition, Zitto Kabwe, also from Chadema said his party had not communicated with CUF on the matter, apart from the prior conversations before the official leadership of the opposition camp was formed.

“I have spoken to my boss (Mbowe). He said they didn’t reach any agreement with CUF since the time the party was invited to form the shadow government and refused,” he said.

However, he said, doors were open for all opposition political parties to join Chadema in forming the alternative government in the House. “I will be very happy if our colleagues from CUF and other opposition parties will join us,” he said.

Last week, Chadema appointed Hai Legislator Mbowe, as opposition leader in Parliament, Kabwe, as his deputy and Singida East legislator Tundu Lissu, as Chief Whip.

The CUF was not interesting in top leadership position in the opposition camp and decided to form small collation with other political parties NCCR-Mageuzi, Tanzania Labour Party (TLP) and United Democratic Party (UDP).
