Uncertainty clouds Tanzania boxers who are supposed to travel all the way to Rabat to compete in the 2012 London Olympics qualifier event for African region next month.
The Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT) officials are not in a position to know when the team is leaving the country.
The qualifiers run from April 27 through May.
BFT secretary general Mashaga Makore said his federation is not in a position to know the travel itinerary but concentrates on training the team.
The BFT official said the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) has pledged to sponsor five boxers and one official to Morocco qualifiers.
He could not name boxers who will make the trip, saying doing so would distabilize the ongoing training camp at Filbert Bayi Secondary School in Kibaha.
However, he said BFT technical committee will select boxers who are committed, young and also skillful.
He also said the technical committee has been advised to select boxers who will compete in categories which are earmarked for many athletes to qualify.
The Morocco qualifiers would help boxers to meet Olympic Games qualifying standards.
BFT official said plans are underway in collaboration with other interested stakeholders to award boxers who meet the London qualifying yardsticks in Morocco.
“We feel this will inspire athletes to attain better results during the Olympic Games. We want our athletes to qualify or even win medals,” he said.
