African Lyon are away to Coastal Union in a Mainland premiership’s ninth round match to be played at the Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga today.

The Dar es Salaam side is experiencing a torrid season early on after plunging deep into the relegation tunnel courtesy of their dismal performance.

After eight rounds of play, Lyon, which gained access into the premiership berth during the 2009/10 season, have seven points managing two wins and a draw.

They have the same number of points with another troubled side Toto Africa from Mwanza but separated by goal aggregates.

Lyon have not won their previous three matches as they face a side that enjoys the season with 13 points to stay fifth in the standings table.

Unbeaten before their home supporters since the season kicked off mid last month, Coastal Union are pre-match favorites though Lyon will not kickoff the game heads down.

The match in Tanga is expected to be a thriller going by the urgency of the visitors to disengage from the unpleasant relegation pool.

A quest to earn more points is what would drive the host side to dictate terms during the encounter.

While Lyon have lost five matches so far, hosts Coastal Union tasted the only defeat for the season when they traveled to Coast region where they were thoroughly beaten by Ruvu Shooting by 2-0 goals on  October 6.

Lyon and Toto Africa found themselves floating in the relegation shockwaves at this stage of the season following a superb performance by new arrivals Mgambo JKT.

Mgambo used to stay in the drop off zone up to the fifth round of the league before reversing the trend to win three back-to-back matches and their recent draw with holders Simba have lifted them at the ninth position.
