Seven teams have confirmed to compete in the Dar es Salaam Regional Volleyball Association (DAREVA) championship that gets underway at the Lugalo venue tomorrow.

DAREVA chairman Siraju Mwasha named the teams lined up for the self sponsored event as Lord Baden Powel High School, Future, Makongo High School, Jeshi Stars, JKT, Tanzania Prisons and the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM).

Prizes in terms of trophies and undisclosed amount of cash will be awarded to finalists, best striker, setter and blocker.

“We do not have a sponsor for this event but we have committed ourselves to award the teams and players who will excel. It’s our hope that the package which we will give the teams and players will inspire them to do better in future tournaments,” he said.

Mwasha said the two best teams will represent the region at the national championship to be staged at a venue to be mentioned later before year-end.

In related development, Mwasha said the week-long international coaching course ends on Sunday at the University of Dar es Salaam.

The course has attracted 48 participants from Kenya and Uganda and has been organised by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) that has sent chief instructor Chuanlun Liu.
