Airtel Tanzania, the most available and affordable service provider yesterday donated text books worth 2m/- to Mpita Secondary School, as part of the company's corporate social responsibility.

The books included Mathematics, Biology and Kiswahili subjects focusing on the school's needs.

Speaking at the handover ceremony held at Airtel offices in Dar es Salaam at the weekend Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, Hawa Bayumi said:

"Through our continuous nationwide books campaign, Airtel is committed to change Tanzanian lives through education. Today we are happy to improve education in Singida Region with this donation. It is our belief that by providing quality education we are laying a strong foundation for the future of these children, the society around them and the entire nation at large.”

“We will continue working together with the government under the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training to continuously improve education facilities around the country so as to raise the standard of education and in turn develop a well equipped future workforce.”

She added: "it is best to teach one how to fish rather than giving them fish".

Thanking Airtel, the school's representative, Mary Hiki said: "We are very happy to receive Airtel's contribution towards improving education in our school and the country. Singida Municipality aims to see every household in Singida is awarded with a graduate in the near future and today Airtel has substantially contributed towards that goal.

Airtel is committed to giving back to Tanzania focusing in education for marginaliSed communities. Last month Airtel donated four computers and books worth 5m/- for Mazombe Secondary School in Iringa Region in a programme that will reach more school throughout Tanzania. Airtel also supports top A-level performers with University scholarships through its Airtel scholar programme.
