National swimming championship will be held in September at a venue to be announced later by the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA).
TSA general secretary Noel Kiunsi said the association plans to invite a huge number of clubs to feature in the championship.
“This year we want many if not all regions competing at the championship,” Kiunsi said.
In a related development, Kiunsi said teenage swimmers who will compete at the youth Olympic Games to be held in Singapore in mid August stand a chance to excel.
“It will be a very interesting and historically championship as the young swimmers will be inspired by high profile stars who will be visiting them at their camp,” said Kiunsi.
He said the International Swimming Federation (FINA) will choose American Michael Phelps, winner of 14 Olympic gold medals, to be one of two overall Ambassadors of the competition.
He further said another legend diver, Guo Jingjing, who won four Olympic medals, will also be invited.
Phelps and Guo are swimmers of the decade according to FINA magazine.
