Leaders Simba SC cemented their place on the top of the Mainland Premier League standings when they beat Kagera Sugar by 3-1 goals at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
Two late goals from Patrick Mafisango and Emmanuel Okwi assured the Msimbazi Street boys to collect the three crucial points in the league. Simba now have 40 points after 18 matches.
Rwandese import Mafisango scored the first goal for Simba in the 25th minute shoot when he received a pass from Jonas Mkude and released a thunderbolt from 30 metres that sailed direct into the net.
Kagera made changes in the 46th minute with Themi Felix replacing Shija Mkina and five minutes later Mike Katende came from the bench instead of Said Dilunga.
Simba pushed harder in the second half and Emmanuel Okwi was denied by a goalpost in the 50th minute following a pass from Haroun Boban.
While the Msimbazi Street boys were busy looking for the second goal, it was the sugar cutters from Kagera who equalized through substitute Felix in the 57th minute following a mix up inside the box.
Simba replaced Jonas Mkude with Uhuru Seleman in the 65th minute.
Simba’s midfielder Shomari Kapombe was sandwiched inside the penalty box by David Charles in the 89th minute and referee Ronald Swai from Arusha pointed to the spot. Mafisango scored his second goal of the day from the spot kick.
Okwi killed the game in the injured time when he finished superbly a pass from Sunzu to make 3-1 for Simba.
In another Premier League match yesterday, Azam moved to the second place with 38 points following their 3-0 victory against Coastal Union from Tanga.
John Bocco scored two goals while Kipre Tchetche added one for the ice cream makers.
