Legislators have called on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Anne Makinda to dissolve Local Authorities Accounts Committee and Parastatal Organisations Accounts Committee which are also faced with corruption allegations.

The MPs’ request came two days after Speaker Makinda dissolved Parliamentary Standing Committee for Energy and Minerals after being accused of involvement in corrupt practices.

Nasari asked for Speaker’s guidance under section 68 (7) saying that according to the media and other social networks there were committees which were also accused of corruption including POAC under the Chairmanship of Zitto Kabwe and LAAC under Augustino Mrema.

“Honourable Speaker although you have dissolved the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Energy and Minerals but there are other committees which also accused of corruption including POAC and LAAC I request your office to reform these committees,” Nassari said.

He said most members of Parliament have been rushing to these committees which have contracts and ignore committees such as community development… “don’t you see that it is high time your chair reorganised these committees by allocating its members to other committees?” he asked.

Nassari proposed to the Speaker to reorganise the Committees by including legislators who have been in the forefront in fighting against corrupt practices.

Meanwhile, Lindi- Urban MP Salum Barwany (CUF) said that Tanzanians were eager to know members of parliament being accused of corruption.

He said that during the debate of the budget estimates for the Ministry of Energy and Minerals some MPs accused some lawmakers of engaging in corrupt practices and the matter was currently under the parliamentary committee for privilege, ethics and powers, but Tanzanians want to know who those MPs were.

In another development, Nkasi –North MP Ali Mohamed requested the Speaker to disclose the names of Members of Parliament accused of corruption so as to restore the reputation of the Parliament.

“We are stand tainted before the public following the corruption allegations facing some MPs …It will be proper if the names of MPs facing corruption allegations are known and if possible they are expelled rather that ruining the reputation of the parliament”, said Mohamed.

Mwibara Member of Parliament Kangi Lugola (CCM) said that while winding up his budget estimates Minister Energy and Minerals assured the public that there will be no more power rationing, which he termed as sabotage.

“I have reports that after the minister’s assurance which has exposed them, the saboteurs were planning to sabotage power infrastructures,” he said.
