Golden boot in sight for Bocco

12th March 2012
Azam striker John Boccco

Azam striker John Boccco has been the dominant talk of the entire Mainland premiership followers going by his recent scoring form.

With 15 goals to his credit, the towering striker looks well set to break the existing record jointly owned by former Simba and Yanga strikers Musa Mgosi and Boniface Ambani, respectively.

After twenty appearances for his side, Bocco has scored more than half of his team’s totals (27 to become highly dependable.

Depending on his coach’s line-up preference and physical fitness, the striker is gradually coming closer to break the premiership record with six matches remaining to wind up the season.

He is expected to surpass the 18-goal barrier within the next few weeks before the season closes in early May.

The Azam striker, who has been with the team since its promotion into the top flight berth in 2008/9 season, has opened a big cushion of five goals over joint second placed in the golden boot award race Kenneth Assamoah and Emmanuel Okwi of Yanga and Simba teams, respectively.

Azam are through with Dar es Salaam top rivals Simba and Young Africans as they are await to wind up the season with other unheralded sides.

However, the team has in the past exhibited controversies when playing against unheralded teams for failure to score and post victories in the most astonishing pattern.

Azam who have strong urge to win their maiden premiership title, have 42 points after thumping holders Yanga by 3-1 goals in the violence-marred match at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam last Saturday.

However, Bocco’s scoring performance still baffles domestic fans as the striker has failed to make an impact in the international front when he features for the national team, Taifa Stars.

His profligacy he displayed during the African Nations Cup qualifier first leg against Mozambique played at home last month, had putt off most of the domestic fans.
